Flat rectangular box - contains shutter door(s).
Narrow box - contains shutter frame, replacement slat and hardware box.
Hardware box – Hinge pins for connecting the door and frame hinges together, black screws for fixing the frame to the wall, small location screws for fixing hinges in place, hinge spacers to level door(s) if necessary, bottle of touch up paint, plastic/adhesive screw cover caps for frames without a cover trim, slat pins for replacing damaged slat.
Please Note: If you have ordered shutters for multiple windows, we recommend that you separate them and place them next to the right window before you start unboxing. Each box will be labelled with the location/name given when ordered.
1. Start by opening the narrow box and removing all packaging, then remove the cover trim from the inside of the frame and put them to one side (these are needed later).
2. Place the frames in the right order to create the shape of your window recess (Top, Bottom, Left, Right) – Check the hinges are in the right place to ensure frame is fitted the right way up.
3. Join frames together by inserting the pins provided into the back of the frame (see image below), these should be pushed in by hand but can also be carefully tapped in with a hammer if needed (Be careful not to damage the frame).
Please note: Start by checking the frame has pre drilled holes ready for installation (see image below), if not holes will need to be drilled before fitting. If unsure please contact us for advice. Your doors will not close properly if bottom frame is not level.
1. Position the frame inside the window recess exactly where you took your measurements, making sure the frame is square with the front of the windowsill and also allowing for protruding handles.
2. Using a spirit level make sure the bottom frame is level, pack out using spacers if necessary.
3. Using spacers tightly pack the rest of the frame out, check frame is square using a spirit level and adjust where necessary (see image below).
4. Once your happy with the position of the frame, attach both sides and the bottom frame to the recess using the screws provided (Masonry – drill and plug, Wood/UPVC – small pilot hole), leave the top for now as you may need to adjust the frame after hanging the doors.
2. Line up the first door hinges with the hinges on the frame and fix them together using the hinge pins provided (see image below). Repeat for all other doors.
3. After all the doors have been installed, check that they all operate smoothly. Adjust the hinges on the frame if necessary (hinge packers are also provided if needed) (see image below).
4. If the doors still don’t operate properly after adjusting the hinges this means that the frame isn’t square and you will need to adjust the spacers around the sides of the frame to get the doors to align.
5. When your happy with the position of the doors, fix the location screws into the hinges (see image below), attach the top frame to the recess (if necessary) and make sure all other fixings around the frame are strong and secure.
6. Peel the adhesive backing off the cover trim and replace back within the frame. For frames without cover trim use the plastic/adhesive screw cover caps provided.
7. Finally fill any gaps between the wall and shutter frame with decorators caulk and you have completed your shutter installation.
